Food For Thought

During February 2016, Second Helpings Atlanta (SHA) rescued 100,338 pounds of food. Based on the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s formula of 1.2 pounds of food per meal, that translates to 83,615 meals for those who are hungry in Atlanta.

The bragging doesn’t stop there. The final 2015 numbers are in: SHA rescued a grand total of 846,237 pounds, or enough for 705,000 meals! Congratulations to the 400+ members of our “Volunteer army” for their tireless efforts as we Drive Out Hunger One Mile at a Time.

Partnerships
There is strength in numbers. Second Helpings Atlanta has forged several new partnerships that we believe will reap rich rewards as we continue to increase our impact in fighting hunger. We welcome the opportunity to work with Elemental Impact, Pace Academy, the Georgia Center for Nonprofits and Hands on Atlanta.

New Food Donors and Agencies
Our reach has expanded exponentially. New Food Donors include Bimbo Bakeries: Norcross; Costco: Cumberland Mall; Federal Reserve Bank; Fiserv; The Lovett School; Mt. Bethel Christian Academy; Muss & Turner’s; Sprouts East-West Connector; Trader Joe’s: East Cobb and Wyndham Atlanta Galleria.  See our complete list of Food Donors here.

We now deliver food to three new Agencies: Covenant House, Crossroads and Project Interconnections.  See our list of Partner Agencies here.

We Can’t Thank You Enough!
We can’t thank our Volunteers enough for their time and energy. Because of them, we’re an increasingly effective- and rapidly growing organization. Our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner in late January featured a kids’ lunch bag project, door prizes, a raffle and more. Expect more thanks, as April is Volunteer Appreciation month. Please “Like” our Facebook page to stay current on all our good news and be sure to “share” the posts that have an impact on you as this will increase our visibility in the community. Email us at volunteer@secondhelpings.info if you know friends or organizations that would like to get involved.

Thank you for all you do for SHA!
